From sand dunes as far as the eye can see to colorful market alleys to get lost in. Different types of locations require different film permits but in general, that is not a problem in Morocco. Our experienced contacts know how to plan and book for on-location shooting. All you need to do is consult our local team on what you plan on filming and when. Below are just a few examples of the most cinematic landscapes of Morocco.

Morocco Filming Locations – Tangier

A new breath of life has blown through the streets of Tangier. Once known as the more eccentric and seedy side of Morocco, this coastal town has transformed itself into an economic hub. Filming in Tangier gives you a backdrop of traditional whitewashed walls and the Mediterranean Sea but also modern shopping and entertainment. Morocco filming locations are known for their beautiful agricultural fields and Tangier is one of them.

Just outside the city you can find filed of wheat, olives, and the infamous hashish. Film permits to film the hashish trade is not easy to come by, though.  Nearby Tangier is Chefchaouen with its iconic indigo blue houses and cobblestone paths. If you are looking for a striking backdrop then this is the place to go. The blue creates wonderful still photography and videography. Morocco Filming Locations – Casablanca

Casablanca is often the starting point of Morocco filming locations. It is the heart of the Moroccan film industry and where you find its most prominent film studio; Cinedina Studios. Many Hollywood leading productions have made use of Cinedina Studios including Body of Lies, Kingdom of Heaven, and Gladiator. Filming in Casablanca is a treat for production crews. You get to enjoy the mild seaside weather with a backdrop of cinematic treasures. The Old Medina offers a medieval atmosphere of mystique. Sunrise over Hasan II Mosque is mesmerizing. Marvel at the mix of traditional and modern at Place Mohammed V that is constantly bustling. The concentration of film professionals makes Casablanca an important city for your production. This is likely where your film permits for Morocco will be arranged. Any additional crew or talent that you may need will also likely be based in this exciting city.

Morocco Filming Locations – Marrakech

Marrakech is perhaps one of the most famous Morocco filming locations. This city is synonymous with its Medina, a network of alleyways to get lost in. The Medina is incredibly large and overflowing with unnamed alleys. The labyrinth is so complicated that to this day there is no accurate map of the Medina. Thankfully, our location scout manager won’t lead you astray. If your production company wishes to film inside the Medina then we are your guide. We will organize the necessary film permits for you to shoot inside this medieval neighborhood. Beyond the Medina are more sights that serve as striking sets. There is Majorelle Garden, a beautiful oasis in the city. There is the brilliant Bahia Palace with its incredible stuccos and mosaics. Marrakech has an air of the ethereal which becomes magical on film.

Morocco Filming Locations – Fes

Visit Fes for a glimpse into the Morocco of the 19th century. Our film fixer in Morocco will take you to places that seem straight out of a history book. It serves as a fantastic backdrop for historic cinematography.  Experience what the old city looked like by walking through Fez Medina, the world’s largest car-free urban area. Still today, Fes is best known for its leather tanneries. Chouara Tannery is the largest and one of the oldest of them all. Our location scout manager can also take you to impressive sights such as Art Naji, a potter’s village, or Medersa Bou Inania, an Islamic site completed in 1357. Given enough time and budget, it is possible to get film permits for many iconic places in Fes. It is not once of the most common Morocco filming locations but it has a lot to offer.
